Velvet fabric is often seen as a sign of luxury. Velvet art, on the other hand, is considered "kitsch, " a gaudy, cheap style of art rarely displayed in art galleries or museums.

The Velveteria in Portland, Oregon is out to change that. This small museum is dedicated solely to velvet paintings. VOA's Yi Suli takes us for a tour of the Velveteria: Museum of Velvet Paintings. Elaine Lu narrates.
